Tell Your Frizz to Make Like Felicia

Do not adjust your screen.

Yes, it’s really me.

Writing a blog post.

And yes, that title is a lame Friday joke. Get it? Bye Felicia? Bye Frizz?

Too much of a stretch?

Gosh it’s been a while, but it feels so good to be back.

I feel like the old lady in Titantic

“It’s been 84 years…”

I just tried a  brand new product with ground-breaking, innovative technology and it completely rocked world, so I needed to break my silence and tell you all about it.

I get messages all the time asking me how to combat summer frizz. Well, want to know one of the main causes of frizzy hair?

Dehydrated hair is dull, frizzy, and poufs when exposed to humidity. That’s why so many people struggle with frizz in the more humid summer months.

This new product duo that I tried is the first to specifically target hair hydration.

I always thought moisture and hydration were one and the same, but I was wrong!

Hydrating the hair is the process of using humectants, proteins, amino acids and critical vitamins that penetrate the hair fiber, infusing and improving the absorption of water and nutrients so that the hair holds and retains moisture.

On the other hand, moisturizing the hair is the process of using butters and oils to coat the outer surface of the hair fiber, sealing and locking down the hair shaft so moisture cannot get in or out of the fiber.

Pretty cool, huh?

These new products from Monat use hyaluronic acid-based technology and body-building Panthenol (pro-vitamin B5).  They are supercharged with the most powerful and highest concentrated assortment of active ingredients effective for restoring smoothness, elasticity and manageability while protecting the hair from further moisture loss. Clinical studies showed 195% improvement in hydration!

In short, this company has bottled voodoo magic. Behold Monat’s Heavenly Hydrating Masque and Double Action Hydrating Serum:

I tried the masque first and I was blown away. Seven years in the beauty industry trying countless products and I’ve NEVER tried anything like it. My hair sucked it up like water through a straw! It was super lightweight, and gave me bounce, body and shine.  It wasn’t heavy at all, yet I saw and immediate improvement in hydration and didn’t feel like I needed to follow with conditioner.  I blow dried with blow out cream and hit it with the curling iron for some loose waves.  This was my result:

I haven’t had a trim since January, you guys! This stuff is bananas!

Now, if you really want to kick it up a notch, this masque can be combined with Monat’s Double Action Hydrating Serum. Seriously it’s like hair boot camp. These two products together pack some serious punch.

If summer is wreaking havoc on your hair and your find your strands parched and frizzing to oblivion, here is what you need to do:

Wash your hair (Rinse and repeat preferably with Monat shampoo).

Towel dry.

Shake serum like a polaroid picture to activate.

Apply a half to full bottle of serum depending on the length and thickness of your hair.

Wait 2-3 minutes.

Apply a generous amount of the heavenly hydration masque. Typically with Monat products less is more, but in this case more is more. I needed more product than I thought I would.

Put on the glamorous shower cap included with your serum.

Wait 10 min. I recommend shaving your legs then maybe getting out of the shower and scrolling Instagram if you’re worried about “finding the time.” If you’re reading this thinking I can’t find 15 min to treat myself you’ve got bigger problems than your hair amiright?!

Rinse well (or shampoo one more time if you have super fine or oily hair).

Condition (if you feel like your hair could use a little more love).

Style as usual.

I air dried because let’s be honest it’s summer, it’s hot and I ain’t blowdrying nothing.

It’s important to note that I air dried in Florida humidity with zero frizz. Zero. If that isn’t something to get excited about, then I don’t know what is!

Since I know you all are going to ask… other products used to get look above include:  renew shampoo, revitalize conditioner, air dry cream, curl cream, and rejuvamist. You can take this quiz to find the best product cocktail for you.

This magic just launched last week and it is a game changer. I’ve been using Monat exclusively for three and a half years so my hair was in good shape to begin with, but this double whammy of hydration takes it to the next level. I’ve never tried anything like it because nothing like it even existed until now. Modern nature and innovation – that’s what Monat is all about – all while being non-toxic, vegan, and cruelty free. I don’t think I’ve ever remained loyal to a line for this long, but I swear just when I think it can’t get any better, it does.

You Say Multiple Revenue Streams but I Scream PYRAMID SCHEME!

Guess what?  I have a you tube channel.  It’s neglected at best, but I have one all the same. 😉

I recently uploaded this live video after it got over 25,000 views on Facebook and seemed to resonate with a lot of people.

You see, times they are a-changing.  The way people make money is changing.

I’m just glad I stopped judging, got educated, and learned all I could about the grossly misunderstood industry known as network marketing.  In the process, I discovered that the passive sideline I intended to treat like an affiliate on my blog, could generate more than all my other revenue streams combined.  Nearly 3 years in, my network marketing business has become my main focus as it out-earns my other business ventures 10 to 1.  Yes, the online, shampoo side hustle earns me TEN TIMES what I make blogging, styling, shopping, and event planning COMBINED.

So… is is a pyramid scheme?  Have I sold out and gone over to the dark side?  Watch this and let me know what you think.

How Does She Do It?

“I don’t know how you do it all.”  – I’ve been hearing that phrase a lot lately, and frankly I want to say:  “I don’t.”

These last few months have been absolutely amazing for me as a business owner – I’ve taken on a new venture and have experienced a great deal of success, but finding the right balance has been elusive at best.

Truth:  I was not prepared.

When I signed on with MONAT back in March, I intended for it to be a sideline business that would diversify the revenue stream on my blog.  I wanted to add a tab, a button ad, incorporate their products into my posts and treat it much like any other affiliate brand that I work with.

What’s that saying?  Man plans and God laughs?  Yeah…well, that plan worked for about 3 days.  My business has exploded.

I went from let me add $300 a month in income to matching my current monthly income in the first 6 weeks.  I went from let me recruit some team members to share the load of sample requests to managing a team of 89 entrepreneurs in 14 states.

Things had to change and they had to change fast.  I was not even close to ready for the time commitment involved.  Sleep?  Who sleeps?  Not this girl!

So what had to give?  This space, for sure.  I’ve blogged less, but I think I’m finally in a place where I can get back to consistent weekly posts with content that you, dear reader, will find valuable.

I have hired Catie as my assistant to help with personal shopping and styling clients and asked her to join the creative team for the A-list Pool Party in August (which is going to be un-freaking-believable!).  I’ve had to step down as co-producer of Roc’ella, but have left the position in the very capable hands of Heather of Roc City Creative and will be staying on as a corporate sponsor.  If you know me at all, you’ll know what a hard decision that was – to say out loud that I can’t physically execute all the tasks needed with my current schedule.  To pass the baton on an event concept that has been in my heart and my head for well over a year.  To actually admit that no, I really can’t do it all.

The truth?  These last few months have been a season of growth – of figuring out what gets to stay and what has to go.  But you know what?  I’m designing the life I’ve always dreamed of.  Did I ever think network marketing would be a part of that equation?  Hell to the no.  But it is.  And this plan is way better than the one I had for myself.

I’ve learned that it’s ok to listen to that voice that urges you to take a leap.  It’s ok to re-prioritize, to grow, to say “no” and “not right now.”  It’s ok to ask for help, to start fresh, to make a change and make a difference.  Have I been overwhelmed during this transition?  YES!  But I kept reminding myself that despite being sleep deprived and more than a little stressed, I was managing blessings.  My life was so full that I needed to share the wealth.

Do I have it all figured out?  Nope, but I’m getting there.

My whole life, I’ve always wanted to make a difference; to help people.  It’s why I became a teacher.  It’s why I left teaching when I felt like I couldn’t.  It’s why I write.  It’s why I started my blog.  As a stylist and personal shopper I’ve spent the last four and a half years helping people look and feel their best and teaching people how to present the very best version of themselves.  MONAT is just another avenue for that desire.  It might start as helping people experience their best hair day ever (which does wonders for self-confidence),  but it goes beyond that.  Now, I get to continue to work in the industry that I love AND take people with me.  I get to coach entrepreneurs and show them how to use our business model to make a positive difference in their lives.  I get to pay it forward.  Yes, I still am in the business of helping people look and feel better, but now I get to change not just their hair or their clothes, but their bank accounts and their lives.  There is such a peace when you know in your heart of hearts that you are exactly where you are supposed to be.  That you’re ready.  That change is good and growth is necessary.

I can’t wait to see what’s next.

PS-  All this shampoo talk making you nervous?  Worried there will be less Roc City Love in this space?  Have no fear, I’m still your #shoplocalroc gal, still that same fashionista, I just have better hair and a brand new way for us to work together.  Thanks for all of your love and support Rochester, I couldn’t do it all without you. 😉
